SAFETY FIRST

Become the best kind of stranger

Let’s be the best kind of fellow travelers. The kind who upload profile pictures that actually look like us (even on bad hair days.) The kind who share their pronouns and use each other’s preferred names. Who respect each other’s personal space and personal differences. And the kind who tip and say, “Thanks, have a good one,” at the end of the ride.

CARING FOR EACH OTHER’S WELL-BEING

A few rules to ride by

Before riding, you must agree that you’ll wear a face mask as required by federal order, are symptom-free, and will follow CDC guidance related to COVID-19. If we get feedback that you’re not wearing a mask properly, you'll need to take a selfie with your mask on before riding with Lyft again.

Healthy ride guides

Stay protected on the road with rideshare health education based on the latest CDC guidance. Keep fresh air flowing with our Air Care Guide, and rest assured knowing that drivers know how to properly disinfect car surfaces to reduce the spread of COVID, based on the Clean Ride Guide.

Accountability’s a 2-way street

We proactively educate all riders and drivers on our Community Guidelines. Anyone who violates these guidelines or our Terms of Service may be permanently removed from the platform.

Safety > Rider > Everyone deserves

Everyone deserves a shot

Lyft is helping provide access to get to and from vaccine appointments. Because getting to the vaccine (or back home) should be the easy part. See how you can get a ride, send a ride, or fund a ride.

SAFETY FIRST, SECOND, ALWAYS

Rider > Annual

Annual background checks

Every driver is required to pass a professionally administered background check before they drive and each year after that. If they don't pass, they won't be allowed to drive with Lyft. It's as simple as that.

Safety > Rider > Ongoing

Ongoing monitoring for safety

Continuous criminal monitoring allows us to quickly deactivate drivers with disqualifying criminal convictions. We also check driving records throughout the year to promptly identify and remove unsafe drivers from the platform as soon as a violation is detected.

Rider > Mandatory

Mandatory safety education

All drivers must complete a safety program developed with RAINN, the largest anti-sexual violence organization in North America. Drivers learn how to create a safe and comfortable ride, including appropriate conversation topics and respecting personal boundaries.

PREDICTING IF YOU NEED HELP

In some cases, if we notice your ride has stopped too soon or for an unusual amount of time, we’ll reach out to see if you need help.

TAKING ACTION ON YOUR RATINGS

If you rate a driver three stars or fewer, you’ll never be matched with them again. Your detailed feedback helps us investigate and take appropriate action, which can include deactivating drivers and riders to help keep the community safe.
