SAFETY FIRST

Let’s be the best of strangers

When you open the door of a Lyft ride, it’s like opening the door to a world of possibility. Will you meet a future friend? Have a conversation that makes you think differently? Or share a moment of comfortable silence? Every new ride is a new opportunity for us to look out for each other. We agree to always meet each other with respect and kindness. As if we’ll be best friends forever. Or maybe just for the next few miles.

Ever-evolving safety features. Rules for the ride. We’re always focused on how we can safely share space together. And we’ll never stop.

BE NICE. THINK ABOUT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OTHERS.

1. Commit to Health Safety.

Before riding or driving with Lyft, you must agree that you’re symptom-free, and will follow CDC guidance related to COVID-19, including wearing a face mask that covers your mouth and nose (as required by federal order). A mask is required even if you’ve been vaccinated.

2. Take a selfie if requested.

If we get feedback that you’re not wearing a mask, you'll need to take a selfie with your mask on before driving or riding with Lyft again.

3. Get to your shot, or help others get to theirs.

We're helping provide access to rides to and from vaccine appointments. Because getting to the vaccine (or back home) should be the easy part. See how you can get a ride, send a ride, or fund a ride.

SAFETY FIRST, SECOND, ALWAYS

Overview > Annual

Annual checks and ongoing monitoring

Every driver is required to pass a professionally administered background check before they drive and each year after that. We also conduct continuous criminal monitoring and driving record checks of current drivers. Anyone with disqualifying violations won't be able to drive with Lyft.

Overview > Mandatory

Mandatory safety education

Anyone who wants to drive with Lyft must complete a community safety program to learn how to create a safe and comfortable ride for all.

Overview > Keeping each other safe

Accountability that goes both ways

We proactively educate all riders and drivers on our Community Guidelines. Anyone who violates these guidelines or our Terms of Service may be permanently removed from the platform.

We're always working on new safety features. Can't stop, won't stop.

KNOW WHO YOU’RE RIDING WITH

Once matched, riders and drivers can see each other’s names, pictures, and ratings.

We're always working on new safety features. Can't stop, won't stop.

SHARE YOUR LOCATION IN REAL TIME

Let friends and family easily track your location when you’re riding or driving.

We're always working on new safety features. Can't stop, won't stop.

GET EMERGENCY HELP FROM ADT

If you ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you can discreetly connect with an ADT security professional. ADT will alert emergency services and share your trip details so you can quickly get assistance.

We're always working on new safety features. Can't stop, won't stop.

PREDICTING IF YOU NEED HELP

In some cases, if we notice your ride has stopped too soon or for an unusual amount of time, we’ll reach out to see if you need help.

Lyft’s Safety Advisory Council

Our Safety Advisory Council is a diverse set of member organizations that helps us continually improve the safety of the platform. The Council advises on products, features, and processes that help keep everyone safe when they’re sharing the ride.
