Today, we’re taking a step toward a hybrid future where riders can request both driver-operated and autonomous rides. As part of a pilot program in Atlanta, riders can now get matched with autonomous vehicles.
During our pilot program, when a rider requests a standard or Wait & Save ride around the Midtown Atlanta area, they could be matched with an autonomous vehicle, powered by May Mobility. These vehicles operate daily during limited hours. If there's an autonomous vehicle available when a rider requests a ride, they’ll be matched and can decide to accept it.
You provide a level of service and human connection that is irreplaceable. Drivers will always have an essential place in rideshare — and we’re here to support you as we go through these changes together.
We created the Lyft Autonomous Driver Forum, a group of trusted drivers across the US — including Atlanta. We’ll use their feedback as we develop our strategy. We also want to bring you directly into the conversation. Share your thoughts in our feedback form.

Every day, our teams come to work focused on how we can best support you. Here are some of the ways we recognize your drive, dedication, and superior service.
Bigger, better rewards: With the new Lyft Rewards program, you earn points on every ride, no matter when you drive. Points can be redeemed for cash, car services, and more.
Our earnings commitment: You’ll always earn 70% or more of rider fares each week, after external fees.
Supporting you on and off the road: Grow your savings with Lyft Direct, generate an accomplishment letter to show the impact you’ve made, and more.
Autonomous vehicles use advanced technology like artificial intelligence, cameras and sensors, GPS, and real-time data to navigate with minimal human input.
We've partnered with May Mobility, a leading autonomous driving technology company, to launch an autonomous rides pilot program in Atlanta. This collaboration combines May Mobility's advanced AV technology with Lyft's extensive network and deep understanding of the rideshare experience.
This small fleet of autonomous vehicles will operate within a 7-square-mile radius around the Midtown area, including Virginia Highlands, Old Fourth Ward, and Inman Park. During this pilot program, autonomous vehicles will operate daily during limited hours. We will proactively notify drivers within the Atlanta region if this changes.
During the pilot program, riders who request a standard or Wait & Save ride could be matched with an autonomous vehicle if their pickup and drop-off locations are within the service area. The autonomous ride will cost the same as a ride with a driver. Learn more.
This launch with May Mobility is a step toward a hybrid future, where both autonomous vehicles and driver-operated rides complement each other and are expected to raise overall rider demand for Lyft. We are committed to being proactive and transparent with you through this evolution and encourage you to share any thoughts you have through this feedback form.
