Adaptive Bikes available San Francisco

At this time, all adaptive bikeshare sessions are paused following local guidance. We hope to resume regularly scheduled operations soon.

Riders with differing abilities will be able to ride adaptive bike share this summer. In collaboration with BORP, Lyft, SFMTA, and the MTC, adaptive bikes will be available throughout the spring and summer at the following locations:

  • Golden Gate Park – Intersection of JFK and Kezar Drive, San Francisco
    Sundays 11 AM - 4 PM (through March 15)
  • Pier 40 - the Embarcadero at Townsend Street
    Wednesdays 11AM - 4PM (starting May 2020)

Bikes are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Riders can make reservations in advance by sending an email to cycling@borp.org to request a bike. Please plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to riding.

Trained staff from BORP, the region’s leading provider of accessible recreation and adaptive sports for people with mobility-related disabilities, will be on-hand to fit, train and assist riders on how to use the adaptive bikes. Adaptive equipment includes supportive pedals, seats and straps, and hand pedals for quad level SCI riders.

The program will have the five adaptive bikes available in San Francisco.

  • Upright handcycle
  • Recumbent handcycle
  • Recumbent leg trike
  • Recumbent trike tandem
  • Side-by-side tandem bicycle
