Lyft's Vision for the Future of Work

Driver and passenger

A Note from our Chief Policy Officer

I started my career as an organizer. I worked on a range of political campaigns, even the historic election of President Barack Obama. But one of the biggest opportunities I’ve had in my career is to join Lyft in fundamentally revolutionizing the way work happens. To truly create change, I believe you need to meet people where they’re at. This is exactly what our team does when it comes to drivers — we listen to what they want and advocate for what they tell us works best for them. Those solutions have crystallized into a series of policy proposals we call “independence + benefits.”

I am excited to share some of the foundational principles behind Lyft’s vision for the Future of Work through this series of policy papers. These papers outline the mechanics behind first-of-its-kind independence + benefits models in California and Washington. And this is just the beginning. Across the nation, we hope our policy positions continue to give a voice to those most impacted by the future of work: drivers.
