New driver improvements to take your drive further

You, the drivers, are at the center of the Lyft community and your success is what we’re invested in. That’s why we’re building products you can only find with Lyft and making improvements to take your drive further.

As we approach the end of the year, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the work you’ve put in and reveal some of the new features we’ve been working on as part of valuing your time and effort, celebrating your service and Lyft’s commitment to your safety.

Record rides, favorites, and rewards

Drivers have had a strong year, and it’s a testament to the great service you’re bringing to riders. In the first half of this year, drivers completed more than 453.2 million rides in the nearly 1,000 cities around the world where Lyft operates.

Those are impressive numbers, and you’re doing it in style. We introduced several new driver-focused features earlier this year and you’re making the most of them. Here are some highlights:

  • Earlier this year, we introduced a feature where riders can favorite their driver. When they do, drivers get first pick on that rider's scheduled ride requests. In the first three months, more than 600,000 unique drivers were favorited by more than 1.5 million riders, and several drivers have been favorited over 100 times each.

  • We’ve seen great adoption of newer AI-powered tools. More than 220,000 drivers generated a driver accomplishment letter to demonstrate the skills they’ve honed while driving on Lyft, and with Earnings Assistant, we’ve seen more than 17,000 plans accepted by drivers to help make the most out of their time on the road.

  • More than 330,000 drivers are in a Lyft Rewards tier nationwide, with more than 2.9 billion points earned since earlier this summer. Drivers are putting money back in their pockets by redeeming points for cash, gas, gift cards, and other everyday expenses like car washes.

Numbers are just a part of the picture. As drivers, you’re a natural part of incredible stories that will stick with riders forever. From one of the most complimented conversationalists in Atlanta, to the Lost & Found Legend in Austin who reunited a pet tarantula with their owner, you’re a major reason why riders love using Lyft.

Supporting your success

Like you, we take great pride in always striving for more. Today, we’re unveiling a host of new features already rolling out to drivers designed to help you take your drive further.

  • Earn sooner while waiting: During pickups, you’ll start earning wait time pay after just one minute. That means over a third of rides will now qualify for wait time pay. And, pay will be higher if the ride has a Turbo bonus.

  • Stack your bonuses: We’re revamping bonuses with Turbo, our pre-planned incentives, and Flash Turbo, which appears in real-time. Both bonuses are percentage-based and displayed on the map to help you know where to earn more. And now your bonuses stack, so you can earn more for your effort.

  • Customize Ride Challenges: You'll be able to pick the exact number of rides you want to complete so you can match your goals to your driving plans, giving you more control over Ride Challenges.

  • Choose your ride type: Soon, you’ll be able to choose the exact ride types you want to drive. Because we know flexibility is important, you can choose your selection at any time to better align with your goals.

Prioritizing your safety

To bring all your safety resources together, we're bringing the Lyft Safety Hub to drivers—a one-stop-shop where you can set preferences on safety tools, block a passenger and learn more about always-on protective measures like Rider Verification and real-time ride monitoring. We're also offering exclusive discounts on dashcams for drivers to save 40% or more through a new partnership with Rexing, for a limited time.

Celebrating your service

Because going the extra mile should pay off, you'll now be able to see a detailed breakdown of your tip earnings over time and ideas for how to increase them in the 'Earnings' tab, along with suggestions for increasing your tips over time.

And in time for the holiday season starting November 1, you have more options to cash in your hard-earned Lyft Rewards points. Redeem them for gift cards from Advanced Auto Parts, AMC, Sephora, and more—for a limited time.

Connecting and celebrating our driver community

Before we go, we’d like to take a moment to thank all the drivers who met with us in person throughout the year. Earlier this month, we hosted three in-person events in Austin, Atlanta, and San Francisco to celebrate Elite drivers in those markets. Here, you made connections, celebrated your excellent service, and learned from one another. You deserve to be recognized for all that you do, and we’re here to help power your journey.

We also hosted our first two Lyft Driver Autonomous Forums in Atlanta and San Francisco, a space where drivers can share thoughts and feedback about autonomous vehicles with us in a direct, intimate conversation.

As AVs roll out to more and more regions across the US, we recognize that these changes can bring uncertainty. We've heard from drivers that you want transparency and a real voice in how autonomous vehicles roll out on the Lyft platform in a hybrid future with both drivers and AVs working side by side.

This is why we’re keeping the dialogue open and we’re thrilled to be hosting our next session in Nashville in the coming weeks. We look forward to meeting with more of the incredible drivers who make up our community in this event and others in the future.

From the Lyft family to yours, we wish you a great fall and holiday season.
