Por que (e como) estamos recompensando nossos passageiros mais fiéis

After 13 years in the rideshare business, we’ve learned a few things. One is that our most loyal customers — those with 10+ years riding with Lyft — are also our best customers. 

Riders with 10+ years tenure take 2x as many rides as other riders — and are 20% more likely to leave a tip for their driver.

Plus, loyal riders are more likely to sign up for the full range of Lyft perks, programs, and features, from bikeshare to “round up and donate” to “favorite a driver” and more.

Figure shows the percentage by which riders with 10+ years with Lyft are more likely to participate in Lyft’s programs and partnerships. Data is from September 2024 to October 2025.

We wanted to reward these loyal riders — and encourage others to keep choosing Lyft. So this fall, we’re piloting a new program: Lyft Cash Rewards.

Here’s how it works: Riders just turn on Lyft Cash auto refill, which sets “Lyft Cash” as their default payment method. In return, Lyft rewards you with 2% to 5% of each ride’s price in Lyft Cash back.* Depending on the refill amount, riders can also receive two cancellation fees back as credits per month (value of $10, monthly) and two free Extra Comfort upgrades per month.

If you are curious about the value — don’t worry, we’ve done some of the math for you. 

Value is calculated assuming the rider takes full advantage of the benefits offered each month. The value of the benefits is estimated using a $20 cost for a standard Lyft, an average $4 value for an upgrade to Extra Comfort, and a $5 value for cancel credits.

Suppose the cost of your typical ride is $20. If you opt for a $25 refill level with 2% back, and take between one and 20 rides per month, you can earn between $5 and $100 in Lyft Cash back annually. 

If you opt for a $50 refill level, the value from 4% Lyft Cash back, combined with the value of up to two relaxed cancellations per month, could top $300 for riders taking 20 rides per month. 

And at the $100 refill level, 5% cash back, along with the value of using your two Extra Comfort upgrades per month (assuming a $4 cost) and your two relaxed cancellations, the annual value for frequent riders could reach $450. In other words, it pays to choose Lyft. Literally.

Frequent riders could get up to $450 in annual value.

At first, this program will be available to select riders, including some of our most-tenured riders, and all of our riders in the Bay Area, where Lyft got its start. Indeed, riders in San Francisco are three times as likely to be riding with Lyft for 10+ years.
