Strict driver standards

Drivers must meet additional criteria for road and in-car safety, along with yearly background checks, and have zero prior personal safety incidents in Lyft’s records. Only experienced, highly rated drivers can give teen rides.

Women+ Connect is enabled for eligible teen riders, which increases the chances that female and nonbinary teens match with female or nonbinary drivers.

Visibility every step of the way

You can request rides for your teen, or they can do it on their own. You’ll get a welcome text from the driver, real-time updates, and trip tracking on a live map in the app. Plus, you can message with the driver and your teen throughout the ride.

Built-in safety features

All teen rides are equipped with built-in safety protections like PIN Verification and Smart Trip Check-In. Once your teen allows microphone access, they’ll also have Audio Recording turned on for every ride.

How to set up Lyft Teen

Open the app and select your profile at the bottom right of the screen, then select ‘Lyft Teen’

Add a teen aged 13 and up to your family and enter their contact info

Add a shared payment method to cover your teen’s rides


Only parents and guardians can create a Lyft Teen account for their teen. They’ll get an invite link via text. Once they’ve downloaded the Lyft app, they’ll have to complete a safety tutorial before they can get going.
