As of Monday March 16, 2020, King County Records and Licensing Services (RALS) temporarily suspended walk-in customer services. In an effort to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19, King County For-Hire Driver Licensing has temporarily modified its processes for issuing approved for-hire driver permits, permit renewals, and TNC vehicle decals. You will not be able to pick up your permit or vehicle endorsement decal at the King County licensing office until the office is reopened. Instead, your permit will be emailed to you. Your vehicle endorsement decal (for new applicants or adding vehicles) will be mailed to you shortly after the image of your permit is emailed to you.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Update the email address you have on file with Lyft. Your for-hire permit and vehicle decal will be emailed to you directly from King County RALS when approved. Lyft will provide updates about when your permit and vehicle decal have been approved and have been sent to your email by King County.

    • To update your email address, visit your Lyft driver app > Sidebar > Settings > Email Address.

  • You will be required to complete a supplemental form enclosed with your permit and/or vehicle decal. Please email a photo of the completed/signed TNC form to King County Licensing at: forhiredriver@kingcounty.gov within 7 days of receiving it.

  • Upload an image of your for-hire permit and vehicle decal to your Lyft driver app within 30 days. When you receive your permit and vehicle endorsement, you are required to upload an image of the permit and vehicle endorsement to your Lyft driver profile within 30 days from the date it was received.

  • Display your permit and vehicle decal in your vehicle while driving with Lyft. When you receive your permit and vehicle decal, you’ll also receive instructions about how to get an enlargement of your permit to post inside the vehicle. In addition, you’ll need to post the endorsement decal on the windshield.

  • For privacy protection, all updates and/or changes must go through Lyft. RALS cannot accept updates directly from drivers. This includes but is not limited to vehicle endorsement replacements, address changes and driver license updates.

These new procedures will remain in place until further notice. For additional information about King County services and impacts, visit: https://www.kingcounty.gov/
