Millions of people use Lyft every day. Our vision is for Lyft to be the safest way to get around, for drivers and riders alike. As our platform has evolved, so have our safety policies and features, and transparency must also evolve. We recognize even one incident is too many, and are committed to prioritizing safety for all.
In our previous safety disclosures* covering 2017–2022, we publicly shared data across five categories of reported sexual assault incidents. Today, Lyft publicly discloses reported incidents across all categories of sexual assault and sexual misconduct, in accordance with the RALIANCE taxonomy, a recognized categorization that provides a uniform standard for reporting and classifying reported safety incidents.
As the first transportation network company to share this expanded data, we believe our reporting will create a higher bar for accountability and set a precedent for more companies to do the same.
Improving Safety Features
Since our first Safety Transparency Report, Lyft has launched new safety features and created additional ways for customers to report concerns spanning incident prevention and detection, emergency response, and customer support.
That includes critical features like Audio Recording, PIN Verification, Direct Rider and Driver Blocking, Driver Favoriting, Rider Verification, Smart Trip Check-In enhancements to monitor rides for unusual activity, in-app Safety Hubs that make it easier for customers to access and customize safety features, and several new ways for customers to report incidents.
Our goals are both to help prevent incidents from occurring, and to also make it easier for people to come forward so we can investigate, support those affected, and take action against those who violate our policies.
Ongoing Commitment
Safety is never a static goal and requires our constant vigilance. When we publish our next Safety Transparency Report, covering reported incidents from 2023–2025, we plan to report across all categories of sexual assault and sexual misconduct, in accordance with the RALIANCE taxonomy.
Millions of people use Lyft every day and we're committed to continuously strengthening our systems and working with safety experts, advocates, and regulators to set high goals in support of both safety and safety transparency for our industry.
