Lyft Rentals Supplemental Product Disclosures

Last Updated: June 30, 2022

Collision Damage Waiver

We offer Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) for an additional charge. CDW is not insurance and not mandatory.

Your own insurance, or the issuer of the credit card you use to pay for the vehicle rental transaction, may cover all or part of your financial responsibility for the rented vehicle. You should check with your insurance company, or credit card issuer, to find out about your coverage and the amount of the deductible, if any, for which you may be liable.

Subject to Paragraph 7 of the Lyft Center, Inc. Vehicle Rental Terms and Conditions, the rental company will not hold you responsible for damage to the Vehicle if you buy a damage waiver. There are exclusions. See the “Additional State Specific Disclosures” section below for additional information applicable to rentals in certain states.

Optional Insurance Products

Lyft Center offers the following optional insurance product: Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI). The following is a summary only of SLI and is subject to all provisions, limitations, exceptions and exclusions of the applicable policies. Upon request, a copy of the SLI policy is available for review.

The purchase of optional insurance products is not required to rent the Vehicle. Optional insurance products that we sell may provide coverage that duplicates coverage provided by your personal automobile insurance policy, homeowner's insurance policy, personal liability insurance policy, or other source of coverage. We are not qualified or authorized to evaluate the adequacy of your existing coverages.

a. Supplemental Liability Insurance (“Cover 3rd party”)

Optional SLI provides you with minimum financial responsibility limits as outlined in the applicable motor vehicle financial responsibility laws of the state where the vehicle is operated AND excess insurance provided by the insurance policy. This supplies you and any authorized drivers with excess third-party liability protection with a combined single limit per accident of $1,000,000 per occurrence. This is a summary only. This coverage is provided under a policy of excess liability insurance more fully described in the available brochure. SLI does not apply to liability for bodily injury or property damage arising out of any "prohibited use of the car" as described in Paragraph 4 of the Lyft Center, Inc. Vehicle Rental Terms and Conditions, all of which are exclusions to SLI. Other exclusions to SLI are listed in the SLI policy. You understand that you will be charged the rate per day for a full day even if you don’t have the car for the entire day. The policy does not provide coverage for any loss arising from the use or operation of Vehicle in Mexico. In the event of an accident, contact the police immediately. To make a claim or give notice of a claim, call American Claims Management: (800) 452-8610.

Additional State-Specific Disclosures

California

Notice: We offer Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) for an additional charge. CDW is not insurance and not mandatory. The following is a summary of CDW and your responsibility for the car.

You are responsible for all collision damage to the rented vehicle even if someone else caused it or the cause is unknown. You are responsible for the cost of repair up to the value of the vehicle, as well as towing, storage, and impound fees.

Further, if you use a credit card that provides coverage for your potential liability, you should check with the issuer to determine if you must first exhaust the coverage limits of your own insurance before the credit card coverage applies.

The rental company will not hold you responsible if you buy a damage waiver. But a damage waiver will not protect you if:

  • Damage or loss results from an authorized driver's
    1. intentional, willful, wanton, or reckless conduct,
    2. operation of the vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol in violation of Section 23152 of the Vehicle Code,
    3. towing or pushing anything, or
    4. operation of the vehicle on an unpaved road if the damage or loss is a direct result of the road or driving conditions.
  • Damage or loss occurs while the vehicle is
    1. used for commercial hire,
    2. used in connection with conduct that could be properly charged as a felony,
    3. involved in a speed test or contest or in driver training activity,
    4. operated by a person other than an authorized driver, or
    5. operated outside the United States.
  • An authorized driver has
    1. provided fraudulent information to the rental company, or
    2. provided false information and the rental company would not have rented the vehicle if it had instead received true information.

The cost of an optional damage waiver is $14-16 for each day of the rental for sedans and $25 for each day of the rental for SUVs.

Optional insurance products are provided under individual policies issued to you, or issued to you under a group or master policy issued to us by Falls Lake Fire & Casualty Company, an insurer authorized to transact the applicable insurance business in the State of California.
