Driver's license*Drivers are required to have a valid driver's license. A temporary license is acceptable, but be sure to upload your permanent copy when you receive it.
*Drivers without a Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia driver's license will not be dispatched for pickups in DC proper.
Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia vehicle insuranceDrivers are required to have personal vehicle insurance issued in Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia.
Driver photoLyft requires a photo of all drivers. Your driver photo is a passenger’s first impression of you when they request a ride.
Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia vehicle registrationDrivers are required to have vehicle registration issued in Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia.
Virginia, Maryland, or DC InspectionDrivers are required to upload a State Vehicle Inspection Certificate from Virginia, Maryland, or DC.
DFHV non-MSA decal (Active Military members only)
Active Military members and their families stationed in MD, VA or D.C. can drive with Lyft by obtaining a DFHV non-MSA decal. Apply for your free DFHV non-MSA decal here.
Received your DFHV decal, or already have one?
Great! Visit us at the Hub to get on the road. Bring the following documents with you:
- DFHV non-MSA decal
- Driver’s license
- Vehicle registration
- State vehicle inspection issued from DC, VA or MD
Lyft will notify you when you've been approved as a driver. Until then, you can check your application status for updates.
Get Set to Drive
The Lyft emblem should be displayed in the lower corner of your rear windshield on the passenger side every time you enter driver mode. Make sure to remove the emblem when you are not in driver mode.
