Getting Around Town
For the next three weekends, April 14th-16th, April 21st-23rd and April 28th-30th, thousands of music-lovers from all over the world will flock to the California desert for a full weekend of entertainment, food and live music. As one of the biggest music festivals in the world, we anticipate increased traffic and demand for rideshare. Plan for longer-than-usual waits and give yourself plenty of time to hop in and out of the festival grounds.
Top Tips for Catching a Ride
At Music Festival Grounds
Rolling around the desert with your crew? Be sure to check out all Lyft ride options to determine what makes the most sense for you and your group, whether a classic ride or Lyft XL.
Major attractions can be found in the app by entering the venue name, i.e. “Lot 1D.” This will help Lyft route you to the designated dropoff zones when you arrive.
Designated pick up and drop off locations will be at Lot 1D on Ave 49 and Monroe or Lot 13 on Ave 52 and Madison. Look for signs around the property and instructions in the Lyft app for directions.
After the Final Set
We totally get it - the never-ending encores and massive stage setups will make it hard to leave the festival grounds. But if you’re eager to beat the traffic, consider leaving the venue early before the mass exodus.
When you exit, use “Lot 1D” for your pickup location and follow the in-app instructions to make your way back to the designated pickup zone. It’s recommended to contact your driver to confirm your location at the pickup zone.
The Morning After
Remember that music fans coming in means music fans going out, and the airports may be more crowded than usual on Monday. Give yourself some extra time to allow for traffic and increased security lines. It’s recommended to request your ride to the airport at least four hours prior to your flight’s departure time–or choose to schedule your Lyft ride up to 30 days in advance.
Tips and Tricks for Our Drivers
Staging Lot
There are opportunities to earn all day. In the early afternoon, riders need a ride to the venue from Desert Cities like Palm Springs. In the evening, take advantage of the highest demand by heading to the Lyft Staging Lot at the festival grounds.
Drivers can stage at Ave 50 and Jackson to wait for a ride
While at the staging lot, drivers may get a notification telling them to drive to the main pickup lot.
If a driver gets a ride request while on the way, give the ride as normal. There will be a security/rideshare checkpoint to proceed west on Ave 50 to Monroe.
If a driver doesn't get a ride request, continue to the pickup area. Drivers can wait for a request in the pickup area for up to 20 minutes and we advise drivers to stay in their car as they are waiting.
Lot 1D (Main Rideshare Area)
To access the main rideshare pickup area, drivers will proceed southbound on Jackson St to Ave 50 westbound. Drivers will stop at a security/rideshare checkpoint, then proceed west to Monroe. Turn right on Monroe and proceed north to access Lot 1D.
Upon exiting Lot 1D, drivers will only be allowed to make a right turn and proceed southbound to Ave 50 then make a left turn and head east to Jackson St.
Drivers must use southbound Jackson to Ave 50 as other routes will conflict with traffic patterns. Indio PD will enforce illegal U-turns and unauthorized drop-offs on Ave 50 and Ave 49 between Madison and Jefferson.
Lot 13
Drivers can access Lot 13 via Ave 54 to Madison. Proceed north of Madison pass Ave 52 to access Lot 13.
Most Importantly…Safety!
The safety of the Lyft community is always our utmost priority. We want to make sure drivers and riders know the best ways to help protect themselves and others when using Lyft.
For Riders
Confirm key ride details that identify your ride before you enter: the vehicle make and model, the driver’s name and photo, and the license plate. If the information doesn’t match up, do not get into the car. Go to a safe place and wait for the right car to arrive, or cancel the ride and report it to us. In an emergency or if you feel threatened, contact law enforcement immediately by dialing 911.
Remember that you can share your location and route with friends and family using our Share Location feature, so they can follow the ride in real time.
For Drivers
Remember to avoid picking up and dropping off riders in restricted areas. Doing so may result in a citation from location authorities, and all citations are the responsibility of the drivers.
