Lyft Is Celebrating Bike to Work Month All May Long

May 1, 2026

May is here, and that means Bike to Work Month is officially underway. From free rides to community events to city-wide challenges, Lyft's bikeshare systems are showing up across the country to help more people get on a bike — whether it's for the morning commute or just for the joy of it.

Here's a look at what's happening in your city:

New York (Citi Bike) On Bike to Work Day, May 15, new riders can unlock a free 30-minute classic bike ride with code BTWD26CB. We'll start spreading the word on May 1, but the code is only active on May 15 — so mark your calendars.

Chicago (Divvy) Divvy is an official sponsor of the Active Trans Alliance Bike Commuter Challenge running May 11 through June 7. New riders can get 3 free rides (up to $5 each) with code PEDALCHI26. Throughout Bike to Work Week, Divvy will be hosting social scavenger hunts with prizes, ride credits, and partner swag up for grabs. And on May 20, Divvy is supporting the Ride of Silence — a global memorial ride honoring cyclists and pedestrians injured or killed on public roadways — with free ride credits for participants (code RIDETOGETHER26). Local influencer Carlos Navarro (~83K followers) will also be capturing a Divvy ride to The Salt Shed on May 15, shining a spotlight on Divvy as Chicago's go-to last-mile option for getting to the city's best venues.

Washington, D.C. (Capital Bikeshare) Capital Bikeshare is a proud bronze sponsor of Bike to Work Day in the Metro DC area. On May 15, riders can unlock a free ride up to 30 minutes on a classic bike or e-bike with code BTWD26CABI. Promotion starts May 1; code activates May 15.

Portland (Biketown) Biketown will be promoting Bike to Work Day across social with a ride code for new riders. Stay tuned to Biketown's channels for details.

San Francisco (Bay Wheels) Bay Wheels is supporting the city's "Bike to Wherever Day" on May 14 with a team presence at an Energizer Station activation with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. That same evening, Bay Wheels is partnering with Bike East Bay for an event in Berkeley — two chances to celebrate in one day.

For Lyft Team Members As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Lyft is hosting a Move Your Way 5K during Bike to Work Week encouraging everyone to run, walk, or ride to participate. If you're in a bikeshare market, hop on your local system and make it a bike ride.

Bike to Work Week runs May 11–17, with Bike to Work Day on May 15. However you choose to ride this month, we hope to see you out there. 🚲
