Lyft Welcomes Jennifer Brandenburger as Director of Community Safety

Dana Davis - May 15, 2020

At Lyft, safety is fundamental. Since day one, we have worked hard to design policies, products, and features that help protect both drivers and riders. We know that safety is not a destination, which is why we have hundreds of employees working every day on end-to-end efforts to help protect our community.

As part of our ongoing investment in safety, we are continuing to grow our team of leaders. Today, we’re thrilled to announce Jennifer Brandenburger will join Lyft as our first Director of Public Policy for Community Safety.

In her new role, Jennifer will serve as Lyft’s ambassador for all aspects of safety. She will be a liaison between riders, drivers, policymakers and partners, helping to ensure Lyft understands what is important to our community, and that we are building policies and products that meet our community’s needs. As part of her role, Jennifer will lead Lyft’s Safety Advisory Council. Jennifer joins us during unprecedented times, and like many at Lyft, her initial work will be focused on Lyft’s ongoing Health Safety initiatives.

Jennifer is a Lyft-veteran, who first joined Lyft in 2014. At the time, Jennifer was the second person to hold a Safety role at Lyft. She immediately stepped into a leadership role, pioneering Lyft’s earliest safety products, policies and processes. As part of that work, Jennifer founded our Nashville office, which serves as headquarters for Lyft’s Trust and Safety operations. Today, Lyft’s Trust and Safety team has grown to nearly 500 employees. Jennifer was instrumental in the creation of our critical response process, to respond and resolve safety incidents. Jennifer brings to this role an end-to-end understanding of safety on the Lyft platform and the rideshare industry, and a crucial awareness of how products and policies manifest for Lyft’s riders and drivers. In short, there is no one better suited for this role than Jennifer, who will now apply her years of experience and vast institutional and industry knowledge as Lyft’s leading authority on our most important topic.

“I’m thrilled to be back at Lyft in this new role, focusing on safety through the lens of people, process and policy,” says Jennifer. “The well-being of riders and drivers is core to the Lyft experience, and my number one goal is to help keep our community safe. There is always more work to be done on safety -- especially as our community grows and ridesharing becomes even more integrated in people’s day-to-day lives. I look forward to pursuing new safety solutions that further elevate safety in rideshare and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our riders and drivers.”

Jennifer re-joins Lyft from Airbnb where she was Director of Safety for Airbnb Experiences. Prior to working at Lyft from 2014 to 2019, Jennifer spent years working with local governments and community organizations through a variety of roles, including working for the City and County of San Francisco.

Please join us in welcoming Jennifer and her passion, creativity and leadership back to Lyft!
