It’s been a big few months for Lyft’s partnership with Waymo in Nashville. You can now get matched with Waymo rides on the Lyft app, and this came shortly after Flexdrive took on day-to-day fleet operations for Waymo vehicles. Today, Flexdrive officially cut the ribbon on our new 80,000-square-foot depot, built by combining our decade of fleet management expertise with Waymo's autonomous driving expertise to service, charge, and maintain autonomous vehicles. We’re now moving in and will welcome Waymo vehicles into the site on October 12.

The depot includes fast-charging infrastructure with dozens of chargers capable of supporting hundreds of autonomous vehicles (AVs), maintenance bays for high voltage repairs, and secure parts storage. And thanks to Nashville's support, we’ve been able to move quickly to make an investment of this scale a reality right here in Tennessee.
More than 70 full-time jobs this year in highly skilled roles
This facility is proof that AV growth creates driver-adjacent careers. We continue to be intentional about hiring former Lyft drivers, who bring a very real understanding of delivering a great customer experience. In fact, we give current and former Lyft drivers priority for interviews for open roles. As we announced back in April, the facility is bringing more than 70 new full-time positions this year, consisting of technicians, fleet operations managers and associates, repair coordinators, and maintenance specialists, with the potential to create hundreds of jobs in the coming years.

We were deliberate in how we built this team: full-time, in-house roles, driving everything from facility safety protocols to sensor calibration to optimizing technician workflows. These are stable, skilled roles at the intersection of transportation and technology, a rapidly growing sector in the country. We provide on-the-job training in vehicle systems, sensor calibration, and fleet operations, reducing the requirements and barrier to entry for a majority of our roles. Every full-time position comes with a comprehensive benefits package from day one.
Building, developing, and upskilling talent in-house is something we take real pride in. We believe it’s what will set Flexdrive and Lyft apart as we bring AV fleet management to more cities in the future. The way we’ve built our team in Nashville is a hiring playbook we have used for a decade, and the same playbook we’ll continue to use for future Flexdrive depots.

What's next
We’re just getting started. As the Nashville fleet grows, so will the team that supports it from our new Flexdrive facility. The Waymo AVs will stay charged, maintained and on the road, so that each vehicle can spend as much time as possible serving riders. And as demand grows, we're exploring expanding our footprint soon with additional locations that help reduce wait times for riders and limit congestion on Nashville’s roads.
Autonomous vehicles have the potential to change how cities move. They join human-driven rideshare, transit, biking, and other shared mobility options to expand access for people who can't drive, reduce the burden of car ownership, and strengthen Nashville's broader mobility ecosystem.
That future takes facilities like this one, teams like the one we've now built in Nashville, and a long-term commitment to doing it right.
See you in Nashville.
