A New Way to Ride with Bay Wheels

We are thrilled to announce a pilot program in San Francisco that introduces a brand-new form factor to our fleet: the throttle-driven ebike. This new addition is designed to make riding more accessible, enjoyable, and familiar for everyone in SF. We’ve taken what our ebike riders know and love and added a thumb throttle so that riders can get a boost - even if they don’t want to pedal.

Why a throttle?
The addition of a thumb throttle provides a boost when you want it, like getting started from a stop sign, or tackling one of SF’s many hills, without the need to pedal. This will be great for riders who want an ebike ride without the effort of pedaling or those who want a little extra boost as part of their ride. Most importantly, the throttle makes riding accessible to more people, ensuring that everyone can hop on and get moving.

For New Riders: Lowering the Barrier to Entry
For those new to Bay Wheels, the throttle feature is a game-changer. It removes the intimidation of San Francisco's notorious hills and offers a familiar, easy way to start riding. By providing power without effort, new riders can focus on enjoying the journey and feeling comfortable navigating the city, ensuring that everyone can hop on and get moving right away.

For Daily Riders: Enhancing the Commute
If Bay Wheels is already a part of your daily routine, the throttle unlocks new levels of efficiency and consistency. Use the quick boost to maintain momentum and flow seamlessly with traffic, or rely on the throttle to ascend challenging routes without breaking a sweat. This will be great for riders who want an ebike ride without the effort of pedaling, making sure you arrive at your destination refreshed and on time, regardless of the topography.

What else?
The throttle ebike will still have all the features of the existing ebike, including pedal-assist, and ability to park at any bike rack in San Francisco. Riders will be able to pedal whenever they want to, and use the throttle whenever they don’t want to. And a throttle ebike ride will cost the same as a regular ebike ride.

How can I find one?
