Upload Your Documents
Take photos of each of the documents below and upload them in the Dashboard.
Safety Standards Certificate (SSC)Drivers are required to upload a Safety Standards Certificate (SSC). It must match the vehicle on file. Keep a copy of your SSC in the vehicle while driving on the Lyft platform.
Driver's licenseDrivers are required to have a valid Class G or higher Ontario driver's license for at least one year. A temporary license is acceptable, but be sure to upload your permanent copy when you receive it.
Vehicle registrationDrivers are required to upload a copy of their vehicle Ontario vehicle registration.
Vulnerable sector checkDrivers must pass a police records check for the vulnerable sector. Obtain this form by applying online or by visiting your local police service. Once you've received the results, upload both sides separately.
Personal vehicle insuranceDrivers are required to have personal vehicle insurance.
Driver photoLyft requires a photo of all drivers. Your driver photo is a passenger’s first impression of you when they request a ride.
Proof of work eligibilityYou must upload one of the following documents as proof of work eligibility:
- Residency card
- Birth certificate
- Citizenship card
- Work permit
Complete Your Background Check
Lyft's third party background check provider, Sterling Talent Solutions, will send you an email upon successfully uploading your documents to Lyft. Follow the instructions in the email to complete your background check. Please note, you may have to go to Canada Post to verify your identity.
Lyft will notify you when you've been approved as a driver. Until then, you can check your application status for updates.
Get Set to Drive
The Lyft emblem should be displayed in the lower corner of your front and rear windshield on the passenger side every time you enter driver mode. If you drive in the City of Toronto, be sure to display your Lyft emblem on your passenger side rear window, as required by local regulations. Make sure to remove the emblem when you are not in driver mode.
