The CDC recently updated its guidance for transportation, and masks are now optional in all rides. We know that everyone has different comfort levels when it comes to health safety. So you can keep wearing a mask, if you'd like to, when you ride or drive.
We still expect everyone to follow our Community Guidelines, treat each other with respect, and not ride or drive if they have COVID-19 or any related symptoms.
Wearing masks on transportation may still be required by law in some areas, and we encourage riders and drivers to check their local public health requirements before using Lyft.
SAFETY FIRST, SECOND, ALWAYS
Annual checks and ongoing monitoring
Every driver is required to pass a professionally administered background check before they drive and each year after that. We also conduct continuous criminal monitoring and driving record checks of current drivers. Anyone with disqualifying violations won't be able to drive with Lyft.
Mandatory safety education
Anyone who wants to drive with Lyft must complete a community safety program to learn how to create a safe and comfortable ride for all.
Accountability that goes both ways
We proactively educate all riders and drivers on our Community Guidelines. Anyone who violates these guidelines or our Terms of Service may be permanently removed from the platform.

GET EMERGENCY HELP FROM ADT
If you ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you can discreetly connect with an ADT security professional. ADT will alert emergency services and share your trip details so you can quickly get assistance.

PREDICTING IF YOU NEED HELP
In some cases, if we notice your ride has stopped too soon or for an unusual amount of time, we’ll reach out to see if you need help.
Lyft’s Safety Advisory Council
Our Safety Advisory Council is a diverse set of member organizations that helps us continually improve the safety of the platform. The Council advises on products, features, and processes that help keep everyone safe when they’re sharing the ride.
