New: Priority Driving Times
We know this is a challenging time to be on the road and ride requests have decreased. We’re looking for new ways to support drivers.
We’re piloting an initiative in response to COVID-19: Priority driving times. During designated times, drivers in the Seattle and Miami areas will be prioritized. What this means is you’ll be more likely to receive ride requests than non-priority drivers, leading to more chances to earn. We’re doing this to help you get the most out of your time on the road, even when ride requests are reduced.
Your eligible priority times will be unique to you. We’ll continue to make improvements to this experience in the upcoming weeks. Going forward, we’ll evaluate priority times each week as market conditions continue to be affected by COVID-19. Every Friday, we’ll let you know your priority driving times for the upcoming week.
You don’t have to drive during priority times — and you can still go online when you’re not prioritized — but you may see fewer ride requests.
Review your times each week Every Friday, you’ll see your priority driving times for the upcoming week — Monday to Sunday.
More ride requests during priority driving times During your priority times, you’re more likely to get ride requests than other drivers.
Review your times each week Your eligible priority times may change each week, so be sure to check the app for updates. We’ll continue to make improvements to provide you with priority times that work with your schedule.
Where it’s available This is a limited pilot in the Seattle and Miami areas.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I request a change to my priority times? Right now, you won’t be able to change your priority times. However, we know you may not always be able to drive during your priority times. We’ll continue to make improvements to your experience in the upcoming weeks.
Will my priority times always be the same? Priority driving times may change each week. We’ll do our best to provide eligible priority times that work best for you.
Do I need to drive in a specific area to qualify? Currently, priority driving times are only available in the Seattle and Miami areas. Your priority driving times will automatically be activated in this region. There is no additional action needed on your end.
How is my priority day determined? Priority driving times may change each week. Each week, we’ll make improvements to provide you with priority times that work with your schedule.
When will this come to my region? This is currently a limited pilot program in the Seattle and Miami areas. We want to make sure we do what’s most helpful for our drivers during this time. Depending on the volume of ride requests, we may roll out priority driving times to other areas.
How do I know if I’m truly being prioritized? You’ll be able to see your priority driving times in the app. While we can’t guarantee you’ll receive the same number of ride requests as you did before the impact of COVID-19, we’ll make sure you’re given preference for nearby ride requests during your priority times in the Seattle and Miami areas.
Is this a permanent change or will this be rolled back after COVID-19 is over? We’re piloting this feature as a response to COVID-19 and will continue to evaluate it each week based on your feedback. We’re working hard to help you maintain the ability to earn with Lyft during this uncertain time.
What’s the difference between priority drivers and non-priority drivers? Priority drivers are more likely to get ride requests than non-priority drivers during designated times. Drivers can still go online during times when they are not prioritized, but they may see fewer ride requests.
Can I drive outside of my priority times? You can still go online when you’re not prioritized, but you may see fewer ride requests.
Why do different drivers have different priority times? Ride requests have decreased as a result of COVID-19. What this means is that when there are more drivers on the road, there are fewer ride requests to go around — making it hard for anyone to earn. By assigning different priority times to different drivers, our hope is that everyone can have a chance to continue earning with Lyft.
Can I use the ‘Destination’ filter during my priority driving times? Priority driving times are most effective when you’re not using the ‘Destination’ filter. You can use your ‘Destination’ filter during your priority driving times, but it will reduce the number of ride requests you would otherwise get.
