To help protect yourself and others from the coronavirus, we developed a car cleaning process just for rideshare drivers with expert recommendations. Use in combination with Lyft’s Health Safety Commitment to help make your rides safe and comfortable.
Your clean ride guide
Follow our cleaning guide below, created in collaboration with P&G Professional and The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. When you’re disinfecting your car yourself, wipe down all the spots where the coronavirus may live:
1. Riders’ space
Use an all-purpose cleaner on seat belts, door handles, buttons, locks, cup holders, and all the nooks and crannies your riders may touch.
Use a sanitizing spray on seats, floor mats, and anywhere else your riders’ clothes and belongings may touch.
2. Your space
Use an all-purpose cleaner on your seat belt, door handle, steering wheel, gear shift, cup holders, center console, knobs, buttons, and any other areas you touch.
3. See-through surfaces
Use an all-purpose cleaner on your partition (if you have one), windows, and your rearview mirror.
The best supplies for disinfecting your car
The best type of cleaning supplies to combat the coronavirus are the ones you’ll find on the EPA’s List N: a comprehensive directory of disinfectants that have been proven effective against viruses similar to SARS-CoV-2 (the virus responsible for COVID-19). All the products we recommend are included on this list and can be ordered on the Lyft Store (with no Lyft markups). For the best results, follow all label directions on the products. Please open doors or windows while cleaning to ensure proper ventilation.
All-purpose cleaner: This will help remove grease and other buildup. We recommend P&G’s Spic and Span.
Sanitizing spray: This will help kill bacteria and viruses. We recommend P&G’s Microban24 which the EPA has approved as effective at killing SARS-CoV-2 (the virus causing COVID-19) within 60 seconds.
Disposable towels or wipes: You’ll need these to properly wipe down your car. It is recommended to thoroughly wash your hands when finished, or consider wearing disposable gloves while cleaning.
FIGHT CORONAVIRUS ON CAR SURFACES
Hard surfaces
Spray your all-purpose cleaner directly onto surfaces and allow it to stay wet for 10 minutes before wiping dry.
Glass
Spray your glass cleaner directly onto surfaces and allow it to stay wet for 10 minutes before wiping dry.
Cloth & leather
Hold your sanitizing spray 6-8” away from the surface and spray until thoroughly covered. Allow the surface to stay wet for 5 minutes before wiping dry.
